The Right Way To Prevent & Treat Acne

Acne has probably been one of the most common pain in the butt for as long as anyone can remember. Even worse than actual acne are the scars left behind, which can never really be 100% removed once they have formed on the skin. This is why early treatment and prevention is of utmost importance.

Another key point when it comes to acne, is not to try and solve the problem on your own. This especially includes popping your own zits without professional help, or using acne products that aren't suitable for your skin, causing infections or dermatitis and making the skin worse. In such cases, you should refrain from most self-care routines, even exfoliating, until your skin returns to normal.

One more amateur mistake is thinking that acne is primarily caused by excess oil on the skin, and using a stronger soap or rigorously washing your face multiple times a day. This can actually cause further irritation.

Even certified dermatologists at our clinic know better than to try and treat their own acne. Checking out their own skin in the mirror cannot be as exact as having a fellow doctor examine the skin more closely. Self-pimple popping, when not done with prior training or knowledge, can aggravate inflammation and disrupt the skin surface, which is why our doctors receive cortisone injections or extractions from other doctors instead of doing it themselves.

Here is what might go wrong when you take matters into your own hands:

1. More acne, more scars.
2. More acne, more scars, more stress → more acne
3. More makeup, covering up face with hair → more acne (repeat 1 & 2)
4. Improper use of cosmetic products → inflammation, breakouts, unnecessary money spending
5. Acne can spread to the chin and neck area, where scars are more difficult to treat.

For best results and an acne clear face, visit a dermatologist! :)
