Fat Grafting/Fat Transfer in South Korea

Artificially adding volume to the face has always been a trusted, effective way to remove wrinkles and restore youth. Excessively sunken, hollow cheeks are not very attractive - they can make you look tired, haggard, and worst of all... much, much older. Luckily in our time and generation, this can be quite easily fixed with a quick visit to your dermatologist.

Now, dermal fillers are a simple solution; it's quick, gets the job done, and is relatively cheap. However, if you want safer, longer lasting results, you might want to consider fat grafting. Also known as fat transferring, this procedure involves extracting fat from areas such as the abdomen or thighs, and injecting it back into areas that lack fat - in our case, the face.

*CLICK FOR FULL REVIEW

Here are some before and after pics for reference. I'm sure you can notice the difference that facial volume can make on your impression. Want to know something cool?
The third patient (last photo) is actually one of our own doctors! Dr. Ko Na Young is head dermatologist of our Hwagok branch; she received the procedure for herself to better relate to her patients. I think we should all applaud her for her bravery and consideration. :D

Now for some general information...

Pros
-Since the patient's own fat cells are used, this eliminates chance of allergic reactions and/or side effects
-Effects last longer than dermal fillers
-You can store your fat at the clinic and use it for a retouch in the future

Cons
-Costs are much more expensive than dermal fillers
-Procedure is more time consuming and painful, with longer downtime

For which areas can I get a fat graft at Renewme Skin Clinic?
-Forehead
-Temples
-Nose
-Frown/laugh lines
-Under eyes
-Cheeks
-Chin

Before Procedure:
-If you are taking any medications for high blood pressure, diabetes, or other serious conditions, consult your doctor.
-Do not take any aspirin, hormones, vitamins, or birth control pills for 2 weeks before procedure.
-Inform the doctor of any prior conditions/illnesses.
-Avoid drinking and smoking for 3 weeks before procedure.
-Avoid procedure during or around your menstrual cycle
-Fast on the day of procedure.

After Procedure:
-Avoid sauna and baths for 2-3 weeks.
-Do not rub or massage procedure area for approximately 3 weeks, until the fat settles in.
-Apply a cold pack on the day of procedure to reduce swelling.
-Avoid smoking and alcohol to prevent infection.
-Try to lie down straight when sleeping
-Do not go on any intense diets.

How long is a fat grafting procedure?
This actually differs among clinics. At Renewme Skin Clinic, the whole procedure, starting with consultation and ending with soothing treatment, will take about 3 to 4 hours. Our doctors take fat grafting very seriously - it is still a surgery, though minimally invasive. We also pay careful attention to very detail, to make sure patients are comfortable from beginning to end. Furthermore, fat grafting at Renewme Skin Clinic also includes a PRP injection, to accelerate healing and to rejuvenate the skin. Click here for another patient review.

How much downtime should I expect?
Normally, swelling and bruising will last for a few weeks. It's best to get plenty of rest the first few days, especially since you might experience pain in areas where the fat was extracted (mainly stomach and thighs).

I should mention, though, that fat grafting is not recommended for everyone. It is always best to consult the doctor first - might turn out that there's an even better procedure out there for you. Do not hesitate to contact us for consultation!

Tips on What To Do at Dongdaemun, Seoul Korea

Dongdaemun (동대문) is one of the most attractive areas in Seoul for tourists and locals alike. All throughout the day and well into the night, the place is bustling with shoppers, vendors, tourists, and people just hanging out. Huge shopping center after shopping center can be seen lined up along the wide, crowded streets, in the midst of which is the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a cultural fashion hub recently built and recognized as one of Seoul's major landmarks, constantly hosting exhibitions and performances for the people of Seoul.

Renewme Skin Clinic Dongdaemun is located right in the center of this wonderland, at a convenient location of just one minute away from the subway station exit. Dermatology/skin care in Korea is extremely advanced and easily accessible; pop in for a quick visit while during your stay in Seoul and experience it for yourself.

Here are directions, and some suggestions for what else you should try out at Dongdaemun:

The first step, of course, is arriving. Get off at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park, subway lines 2, 4 and 5. I normally use line 4 to get to and from work. (You can tell this is line 4 because the number in front starts with 4.) ^_^

Once you get off the station, all you have to do is follow the arrows that lead you to exit 13.

Exits 13 and 14 are right beside the entrance to Good Morning City, one of the huge shopping centers you see in Dongdaemun. This place has floors and floors of clothes and fashion accessories, as well as a movie theater and sauna. Exit 13 is on the left; that's me in the blue jacket, facing the stairs. Looks like I only have one leg! :D

Walk out of exit 13 and this is the first thing you will see. Follow the yellow line and cross the street.

Renewme Skin Clinic is located on the 6th floor of this building. Go straight past Lotteria and you will see the entrance on your right.

Here is a picture of our sign as well as the entrance. Just above the clinic is a hotel; there is a wide selection of hotels and hostels around this area to choose from, of all budgets and facilities. In case you are wondering where you should stay in Seoul. ;)

Above is our reception desk and lobby. That's me on the couch, waiting to meet with an international patient who needs interpretation. ^_^

Here are some other places you should check out if you are in the area:

Shopping

Shopping is a must if you are in Dongdaemun. Stand in this spot right here, and in all four directions you will see shopping centers towering above you, as well as street stalls that sell snacks, accessories, and even clothes. Here at Dongdaemun you can get everything, from brand name clothing to cheaper but fashionable items where prices are negotiable. Have some fun haggling with the store owners before you make your purchase! Many shopping centers also have floors with souvenirs that can make great gifts. Many of them are also open until 4-5 in the morning! Ooh. And if you're into Korean cosmetics, which is steadily gaining worldwide popularity due to its low prices and high quality, they are all available at Dongdaemun as well.

Food

Ah, the food in Korea is really something. It's unique, delicious, and super cheap. Most of it will be things you have never tried back at home (unless you've had Korean food already), so get ready to gain some weight during your stay. Dongdaemun is full of restaurants and cafes that sell traditional food, international food, fusion foods, desserts, drinks, coffee, you name it. Most restaurants around this area will probably have English/Chinese/Japanese menus for tourists. Street foods are also aplenty - ice cream, chicken on a stick, Korean corndogs, silkworms, waffles, fried snacks are just a few out of the endless options. You'll want to try everything... and you should!

Cheonggyecheon (Stream)

Cheonggyecheon is a stream that flows through the city center, passing by Dongdaemun along the way. This used to be an actual stream that was restored about ten years ago and is now artificially run. It's bright and decorated, and a great place to go for a walk or jog, sightseeing along the way. (No swimming or wading, though - the water is not that clean!) In the late fall/early winter you might be able to catch the lantern festival. Even if you can't, the stream is a beautiful thing to see at night when it is all lit up.

Wholesale/Night Market

To Seoul locals, I would say this is what Dongdaemun is most well-known for. Closer to Cheonggyecheon, you will see huge market complexes that are a bit less modern. These markets are wholesale only, and have supplies for just about anything; clothing items, fabric, accessories, crafts, shoes, sports etc. If you are looking to import supplies or clothes to start a retail business, or perhaps an online shopping mall, this is the perfect place for you. Remember, this is wholesale only; don't expect to shop for yourself around here. They will know, and refuse to deal with you.
A lot of these markets open in the evening and close in the early morning. There are also a bunch of street stalls that line up outside after the sun goes down. The night market is a great option for when you are jet-lagged, not into clubs or drinking, and have nowhere else to go. It's a fun experience even if you don't want to buy anything. Plus, some night stalls sell street food as well, so you won't go hungry.

And that's all! I hope this helps you navigate through Seoul if you still aren't familiar with this crazy, beautiful, awesome city.

Best wishes on your journey.

Slimmer Legs with Botox Injections in Seoul

Here's another Korean standard of beauty that you might not have been familiar with:

Korean women like smooth, slender legs. As in, defined and muscular calves are a no-no. This might actually be something you haven't even given a single thought to in the past, but in Korea, defined calves are considered quite unattractive. And I might be generalizing a bit here, but in my opinion I think Koreans just like to look naturally slender, rather than toned and fit. They want to seem like they didn't need to make an effort to look skinny.

Strange, maybe funny side story: when I was in middle and high school here in Korea, I had to go on a 10 minute hike to get to class, because the school was literally located in a mountain. A very modern mountain, cleared of trees and filled with buildings and roads and stuff, but still a mountain nevertheless. And rumor had it that a lot of students avoided attending that school because they feared their calves would get too big and defined. Indeed, girls propping one calf on the other thigh and furiously massaging it, hoping to "dissolve" the muscles there was quite a common sight to see during class. That's how conscious everyone was about the shape of their legs.

Anyway. Smooth, curvy, slender legs obviously look nice and feminine; there's no doubt about that. Girls in Korea have taken plenty of measures to obtain this perfect leg shape, constantly massaging their calves with their hands, glass bottles, or some machine at a lot of fitness clubs.

And well, to be honest, I don't know how much of these really have effect, since the only way to reduce muscle is to not use them, and we can't just stop walking around until our leg muscles shrink. It doesn't work like that.

Luckily, botox injections on the calves are known to do the trick. Botox can actually have many more uses than just smoothing wrinkly skin - it blocks signals from the muscles, which keeps it from contracting. One of these many applications can be paralyzing calf muscles to reduce the overall size. This can be a real beacon of hope for people who have bulging calves, and can't fit their legs into that gorgeous pair of boots. Now, you just might be able to!

The director of one of our Renewme Skin Clinic branches received the injection for herself. Check out how her legs turned out:

I need to make sure you know, that this injection will not reduce the overall circumference of your legs. It might, but the actual purpose is just to make the leg shape smoother instead of muscular and defined. Don't expect your legs to shrink a few inches - it's not a magical injection. It will make your legs look prettier, we can guarantee that.

And how long is the procedure, you might ask?

Maybe about 10 minutes. That's it! No anesthesia needed, just an injection, and boom, you're done. There aren't any side effects, either; you might feel a bit sore, like you would feel after a long workout, but that's temporary and it's very, very bearable.

So what are you waiting for? If this is the treatment for you, book an appointment today. :)

Skin Treatment After Plastic Surgery | Renewme Skin Clinic Korea

Plastic surgery... we all do it to look more beautiful. After a somewhat painful procedure and days/weeks of downtime, it transforms us into an aesthetically better version of ourselves. We're left with more self confidence and satisfaction with our bodies and faces. And for this, the pain and downtime is a short suffering we are willing to endure for the sake of an amazing outcome.

But still, that period can be quite nasty for your skin (the bruising and swelling is not even a question). You're in your least glamorous state ever, and while it's a price you knew you would pay, you still wish it was over already. If you could reduce that time to as short as possible, you would, right? Who wouldn't? I certainly would. :P

Now, surgery can leave your skin quite sensitive. The blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic channels are damaged, which can block nutrients from being sent to the skin and therefore affect your natural skin rejuvenation cycle. If you don't pay extra attention, your skin might end up more rough and wrinkled! That's definitely something you do not want to happen. So here are a few tips you might want to keep in mind to prevent this:

-Keep yourself hydrated and get plenty of rest.
-Use generous amounts of sunscreen and avoid too much sunlight.
-Use a cold pack.
-When sleeping, keep your head higher than your heart.
-Let your wounds naturally heal instead of picking/poking at them.
-Make sure to gently but thoroughly cleanse your skin each night.

These are basic rules that should be kept for most situations. However, you might still be looking for something that could accelerate the healing process faster.

That's why at Renewme Skin Clinic, we have prepared a special program dedicated only to helping skin recover from the aftermath of plastic surgery. Using a combination of PDT and laser treatments, this program can even and brighten your skin tone, firm and tighten your skin, and recover bruises and wounds. Take a look at some of the equipment we use:

1. Omega Light

Prior medication-based acne treatment methods had harsh side effects (such as foetal deformities) and only offered a temporary solution. PDT (Omega light, photodynamic therapy) is the latest technology that minimizes all the flaws of former methods. By using specific wavelengths to destroy acne bacteria and reduce sebum, Omega light offers a quick and effective way to treat acne and remove blackheads, as well as cleanse pores and exfoliate. Originally developed to reduce pain and dress wounds, PDT is now also used for post-surgical recovery, hair restoration, aesthetic skin care, and obesity.

2. Evokin

Continuous emission of low-level Evokin lasers increase protein, treat infections, and increase growth factors to stimulate collagen regeneration within fibroblasts.

3. Gold Laser Toning

Aside from treating pigmentation, flushing, and vascular conditions, Gold Laser Toning can also have a facelift effect. It is the ideal treatment for most skin problems that can occur from cosmetic surgeries.
Gold Toning utilizes the gold hand-piece by SPECTRA in combination with laser toning, which is already the best known treatment for freckles. The result is a new treatment method for the more difficult spots, or for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Unlike prior laser toning, Gold Toning can also treat erythema.

All of these treatments could be done just for regular skin care, and not necessarily for after plastic surgery. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Renewme Triple Protection Sun Cream - Secret to Perfect Korean Skin Part 3

Sunscreen. Sunblock. Sun Cream. Whatever you call it - UV protection is essential to maintaining healthy skin. We are exposed to sunlight and UV rays all throughout the year; and Koreans are well aware of this. Perhaps it's because Koreans don't like to get tan - pale is the standard of beautiful skin here - but anyway, we are serious about protecting our skin. If you're reading this post because you are interested in Korean skin care, you probably already know that there are multiple steps and products that would probably be too confusing for other people to understand. But even if you're not skin-crazy Korean, sunblock is still important; UV rays can cause pigmentation and premature aging. You remember that photo, of the man whose face was half wrinkled because only his left side was exposed to the sun from driving?

Yeah, this one. It scared quite a lot of people, and perhaps you too. :P

So. We at Renewme Skin Clinic have our own brand of functional cosmetics, tested by our own dermatologists and currently sold only at our clinic. I've taken some time to test it out for myself and thought I would share my experience with you.

This is the Triple Protection Sun Cream, SPF 50+, PA +++.
In case you don't know, SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. SPF 50 means that you can last 50 times longer in the sun than you would without any UVB protection. PA +++ (three pluses) indicates the highest level of UVA protection.
Long story short, this is the most protection you can get from a sun screen lotion.

Now, from personal experience, I never really liked using sunblock. Most formulas are oily and sticky, and especially when you sweat during the summer, the sensation is just icky. I still generously apply it, of course, but it still doesn't feel great. I've applied a regular sunblock (not going to mention the brand) on my skin and blotted the area with an oil sheet. The results?

I've left it on for a bit and could see the greasiness starting to seep through.

Did the same thing with the Triple Protection Sun Cream:

I even pressed it down to double-check, but as you can see, my skin is nice and dry and soft.
This isn't even the oil-free sun cream; we have one specifically for acne prone and oily skin.
This is our normal sun cream but in my personal opinion it's already a lot better than the other ones in the market. It feels fresh and clean on my skin and doesn't give off the impression of your typical sunscreen.

You might also be wondering what "triple protection" might refer to:
1. UV Protection
2. Whitening
3. Wrinkle Removal

Oh, and by whitening, it's not that white cast you get from regular sunscreen. I hate when sunscreen makes me look all pale and ghostly, but this isn't that. This sun cream includes niacinamide, which is a whitening agent.
Wrinkle repairing agents also include adenosine, phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid and bis-ethylhexyloxyphennol. Sorry for the looooong names!

Additionally, this sun cream is a great moisturizer. It includes aloe vera extracts and sebum control powder for a soft finish with long-lasting protection.

Laser Lipolysis for Your Double Chin - ACCULIFT in Seoul Korea

We all have that piece of stubborn fat somewhere that just won't go away. An especially annoying part can be the double chin - exercise and diet usually won't do much for that blubbery piece hanging there. If you're fervently nodding your head in agreement now, why not consider laser lipolysis? Also known as laser lipo, this is a minimal invasive procedure that tightens your skin and gets rid of that stubborn excess fat for you.

Here is a photo of one of our patients.

Funny how a simple procedure like that can make you look years younger, right? You can read the full testimonial here.

So how is this done at Renewme Skin Clinic?

Well, to start off, the equipment we use is called AccuSculpt, and the procedure is known as AccuLift
After local anesthesia, the needle you see above is injected into a small incision made on each side of the face, from which the laser is emitted to melt the fat. Once the fat is melted, it is suctioned out and removed.
The procedure takes about 1 hour, but with consultation, preparation, anesthesia, soothing treatment and such, you should save aside a good 3-5 hours to receive the best services possible at our clinic. And you should clear your schedule for the rest of the day as well, so I would suggest you take a half day and have the procedure on an afternoon.

Will it work for me as well?
Laser lipolysis is not a treatment for everyone. Firstly, it is not a solution for obesity but rather for contouring and removing stubborn fat. And even so, the procedure will have different results for different people. It is strongly recommended that you consult a dermatologist first, after which s/he will examine your skin and determine whether it will work for you.

What are the side effects and downtime?
AccuLift is a minimal invasive procedure; small incisions are made to insert the needle but this does not result in any scarring. Patients will, however, experience swelling and possible bruising which will subside more quickly if you visit the clinic a few days after, for post-procedural care.
Downtime differs per person but one week is a good rule of thumb. You should make sure to get plenty of rest for a few hours immediately after. For the face, avoid makeup and washing for a couple of days, and adjust your pillow to be higher than your heart. And for about a week, avoid sauna, hot baths, and excessive exercise/sweating.

Check out the video below to get a glimpse of the procedure. Or skip it if you would rather not see. :)

Facial Thread Lift in Korea

Thread lift is an interesting procedure for those who want to treat wrinkles and sagging skin. If you are afraid of a full facelift surgery, this is an option you may want to consider if you want instant results from a minimal invasive procedure.

Effects will vary depending on the type of thread that is used. Normally, threads are cogged so that they hook on to your skin and hold it up. Sounds scary, right? But it dissolves over time, so they won't stay inside your skin forever. These are what the threads look like:

The one on the right is the cogged thread I mentioned, and for best results a combination of all three is used.

The newest thread available in the market is also known at the Blue Rose Thread, and it's the one I want to elaborate a bit on today.

This is what the thread is like; it resembles the thorns of a rose, which is where the name comes from. The cogs here are all around the thread instead of just lining up on one side, so it secures more tightly on the skin and last much, much longer.

But enough of all this technical talk; we want real photos, right? Here is a patient who received the Blue Rose thread lift not so long ago. The link to her review is here.

I will use the photos from her review here as well, just to show you guys.

So this is our patient before procedure. After an anesthetic injection, the doctor uses a white eyeliner pencil to design the face. Here you can see her cheeks are a bit sagging in general, and her jawline is not quite defined.

This is immediately after the procedure. AMAZING, right? The effects are so instant, I can't even...
Her face already has that V-line that Koreans are so crazy about. Her facial lines are much sharper, even if her face is swollen from the procedure.

And something else even more amazing? Here is her face, just 2 days after.

OMG. Stop it, already. She looks SO good, doesn't she? In only two days! Never mind the skin tone, that's probably because of the different lighting, but compare this face to the very first photo. If you say you don't see any difference... sorry, but that's obviously not true! In just two days, this thread lift has worked wonders.

Now, thread lifts can have some side effects if not done properly. The thread can be visible, or even stick out from the skin. The procedure is not entirely painless. There will be some swelling for a few days.

That's why you need to consult an experienced dermatologist who has successfully performed this before, many times. You don't want to go to just any plastic surgeon or doctor; this is a pretty big procedure and you want to go to the right person. Precisely the reason why in Korea, I would recommend Dr. Ha Ji Hyun at the Jamsil branch at Renewme Skin Clinic. Of all of our 20 dermatologists, she is one of the most experienced, and very honest. If she examines your face and feels that this won't work on you, she will tell you not to do it, even if you really want to.

Here is a video on what the procedure is like (normal threads, not Blue Rose). If you'd rather not, please skip it. I don't want to scare you away!

Treatment for Acne Scars in Seoul, Korea - What are my options?

Acne is already a big pain-in-the-butt in itself, but what's even more annoying is when they leave nasty marks and scars on your face, as if to leave a haunting reminder. Regardless of shape and size, whether they are pitted scars, raised scars, or pigmentation, acne scars should and can be treated.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as 100% removal, no matter how good the treatment is. However, it is still very possible to make a ton of improvement and leave your face clearer and smoother than before.

Here are some treatments offered at Renewme Skin Clinic. Photos are not available for all treatments but I've done my best to provide as much as possible. All photos are of actual patients that received treatment at Renewme Skin Clinic.

1. MOSAIC LASER
This is a called fractional laser treatment, also known as fraxel. Simply put, what this laser does is artificially destroy old cells to stimulate collagen regrowth. Our body works in mysterious ways - when the skin is damaged, it will start working to heal itself. Mosaic uses this wondrous property of the skin by triggering this healing reaction in the skin to fill in those scars. Here are some before and after photos:

You can see the results are pretty good with steady treatment sessions!

Mosaic is also effective in contracting pores:

2. EXCEL-V LASER
This is one of our most advanced equipment, and not easily available at many other dermatology clinics here in Korea. Operated in three different modes, Excel-V is mostly used for treating vascular conditions, like redness or rosacea. One of its modes is effective on scars too - the different modes of this laser enable doctors to treat a wider range of skin conditions so you can have better skin in more ways than one.

The lighting is different so the photos may not seem so accurate (this is a selfie and not taken professionally), but you can still spot the veins that are present in the first photo and gone in the next.

3. INNOFILL
INNOfill is a special injection in which a special patented needle emits radio-frequency to stimulate collagen and cell growth. It's more like an upgraded version of subcision; INNOfill breaks off the tangle tissues that cause pitted scars, as well as uses RF to regenerate skin. This fills up and treats scars, as well as improve elasticity. Effects are best when paired with the Mosaic laser.

4. SPECTRA-XT LASER
This laser is already well established in the field as an effective remover of moles, birthmarks, and freckles. Now, paired with a new hand-piece, dermatologists can also treat vascular conditions (redness); treatment is called Gold Laser Toning.

5. IPL
Standing for Intense Pulsed Light, IPL uses several wavelengths to treat a variety of conditions, from pigmentation to hair removal and just overall skin regeneration. The procedure is painless with no downtime, so you can go about your schedule as usual.

6. DOT PEELING (TCA CROSS PEEL)
A solution called TCA (tri-chloroacetic acid) is injected into the base of the scars to induce a partial chemical peeling. This stimulates skin regrowth to fill in the scars.

Paired with regular acne treatment, such as acne scaling, peeling, sebum extraction, and vitamin injections, your skin really has a chance to improve and become clearer! The most important to remember, though, is that continuous treatment is the key to an effective recovery. Most treatments for scars are taken over the course of several weeks/months. As long as you can commit the time and effort, acne scars can definitely be treated.

So if you happen to be in Seoul and need a good dermatologist to remove those scars...
We are always available. ;)

Hairline Lowering/Forehead Reduction - Why should you do it in South Korea?

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but Koreans have a strict standard of beauty that can be very different from Western standards. Just to mention a few; we like white skin, small and egg-shaped faces (hence the obsession over the V-line), skinny and slender bodies rather than toned and muscular, and small butts. That's right folks, Baby Got Back is not a song Koreans can relate to. Anyway, from my personal experience, I just don't think there is much room for diversity in shapes and sizes.

Going back to the face shape, I think a lot of Korean girls are a lot more self conscious about their faces in general. If you don't have a nicely shaped forehead, bangs might be considered necessary. They really, really care about their bangs, not as a style, but to cover their forehead if it's not perfectly shaped and rounded.

Have a look at this. This was a rather hot topic just a while back, the contestants for the Miss Korea beauty pageant in 2013. This evoked a bit of criticism, I'm sure you can guess why, but that's not why I'm showing this photo now. I want to focus on something more specific.

Take a close look at their foreheads and hairline. They're all smooth and round and full. It just goes to show that correcting the hairline is a common procedure for celebrities, or anyone whose job it is to maintain a beautiful appearance. Plastic surgery too, but that's so obvious I'm not even getting into that.

My point is, you can create a beautiful hairline for yourself in Korea too. It's not such a rare procedure, so it's not difficult to find a doctor who can perform it well. Our dermatologists at Renewme Skin Clinic have done it on each other, they've done it on patients, they've done it on my coworkers. They can probably do it in their sleep. If you're considering a hairline lowering surgery or just a hair transplantation at all, I'd suggest Korea. Same reason you should come here for plastic surgery!

What I want to say is, if you're stressed about your hairline and want to fix it for any reason whatsoever, Korea is a good option. So is Renewme Skin Clinic. :-) I've seen a lot of people regain their self-confidence afterwards - it seems pretty simple, but it really changes you! After all, we all want to look more beautiful, don't we? It makes us feel better about ourselves, can't deny it. Just don't forget to beautify yourself on the inside as well, that's more important. ;)

Here's a video on one of our patients who had her hairline corrected by Dr. Ha, one of our best dermatologists. Captions for the video are available in English!

The Best Treatment for Dry Skin - Secret to Perfect Korean Skin Part 2

Hi guys, Sam again. Not that anyone is asking, but yes, I managed to survive my Monday and am steadily making it through this long, long week.

So now it's time to elaborate more on the so-called 'water shine' injection, from yesterday's post. It's the post right underneath, but just in case you need a link. ;)

Now, I'm assuming here that we all know the miraculous abilities of hyaluronic acid - how it can retain so much water. How it's naturally found in the skin, keeping it young and fresh until it starts to decline with age. If you don't, I strongly suggest you research a bit, since so many people can explain it much better than I can!

Today we are only focusing on its moisturizing properties. It's used in a lot of skin moisturizers (big surprise) and also as a filler. But this 'water shine' injection is sort of like something of both. It injects hyaluronic acid into the skin, but thinly and evenly across the whole face, not to fill up a particular area to add volume.

So this is what the needle (or should I say needles) looks like. You might be intimidated by the FIVE needles, but they are actually teeny tiny and look like this:

I'm taking excerpts and photos from a testimonial on our website to show you what the procedure is really like. Nicole, a lovely Chinese girl who also translates for our Chinese patients, was kind enough to document her experience for us!

This is her with anesthesia cream. Funny that they use a plastic wrap to keep it in place, but as long as it does the job, I don't see any reason to complain. :P

So while she's waiting for the anesthesia to work its magic, the nurses draw her blood.

Uh. And why would they do that, you ask?

The HA 'water shine' injections are paired with a PRP injection. PRP (platelet rich plasma) can accelerate recovery and helps with skin regeneration. When used with the water shine injection, they become the ultimate dynamic duo!

So the blood is placed in a centrifuging machine to create the PRP. Then it's mixed with the hyaluronic acid solution, and we're ready to go.

This is what the injection looks like... tiny little pricks on the skin, and you can feel the solution seeping into your skin. The procedure takes only about 15 minutes, and is not too painful thanks to the anesthesia. Or so Nicole says. :)

This is Nicole right after the injection. You can see for yourself that no, she is not bleeding all over because of all those needles. Rather, she's all nice and moisturized now!

This is Nicole on her way home after the procedure. Can you tell she's just had a bunch of needles and her own blood injected into her face!?

I dunno about you, but I can't tell at all. As far as I'm concerned, it can stay her little secret forever, if not for the fact that her photos all over the internet now (with her consent, of course).

So yes, it's safe to say, this beautiful procedure doesn't have downtime!

And now, you want to know what she's like now, right? The real results. How effective it actually is. I should tell you in advance, you are going to be surprised. True, pictures can be deceiving, but it's hard to fake this unless you're using filters and photoshop. Here is a RAW photo of Nicole, exactly 4 days after her injection.

Whaaaaaaaat. Are you kidding me? Do you see that glossy, glowing, gorgeous skin?

You might be thinking 'but she has makeup on,' but the point here is that even her makeup looks better after the injection. The foundation applies to her skin like a fish that met water for the first time in... er... minutes, after nearly suffocating to death!! Make sense? Hope you can keep up with my weirdness. I'm trying to say: that's what intense moisturizing will do for you!

I asked Nicole to tell me what her skin was like. She said when she touches her bare skin, she can feel the moisture. It's like the skin has already soaked in pumpfuls of lotion.

The effects are said to last for up to 3 months, but that's only if you take good care of your skin afterwards. The injection doesn't mean you can forget all about your skin, it's not a magical solution. It just helps, a LOT. For most people effects will last for about 1-2 months.

So there you have it! One of the best ways to keep your dry skin moisturized during harsh and arid winters. If you happen to be in Korea, you might want to look into the hyaluronic acid "water shine" injection! It's a super quick and efficient procedure that can achieve what drinking water and applying moisturizing creams just can't do for you.

Some more information on the injection can be found here.

And lastly, our clinic was on a TV show in Korea! In this clip, three women try different moisturizing remedies (drinking water, spraying mist, HA injection) and compare the results. You probably know which one is the winner. :) Plus, you get to see Dr. Ha, the head dermatologist at our Jamsil branch! She's one of the best; if you ever come to Renewme Skin Clinic you should ask for her.

Oh. The video is in Korean, of course. Subtitles should be available very soon.
