Another question I get quite frequently from patients is whether there are any treatments to change the skin tone. In most Asian countries, contrary to Western cultures where tanning is a top priority, most ladies strive after lighter, pearly white skin. Unfortunately, I am sad to inform you that it is not possible to change the color of the skin you were born with. Treatments may make you seem brighter, as in giving a healthier glow, but this does not change milk chocolate to vanilla.
So what else can you do? At a dermatology clinic, a whiter and brighter face is achieved by removing the blemishes and spots that cause a dull appearance. And if it comes to pigmentation, I can assure you that we have all the lasers you need to remove them. A clearer face full of spots and pigmentation can certainly make you look younger, fresher, and brighter.
EXCEL V by Cutera is great not only for vascular conditions like rosacea and spider veins, but also good for pigmentation in the epidermis (the superficial, upper layers of the skin). You can see pretty good effects with just one session; the pigmentation will cause some slight crusting, which after a few days will fall off and leave your face clean.
Nd;YAG laser is used primarily for tattoo removal, and depending on the type of pigmentation you have, may require several monthly sessions for best results.
CO2 laser uses carbon dioxide to vaporize the skin surface. It is used for moles, age spots, and warts - for deeper moles/warts you might need more than one session, but for the small ones, they can be removed pretty easily at an affordable price as well.
IPL laser stands for intense pulsed light, and is a combination of wavelengths that can destroy pigmentation while protecting healthy skin. It works well on certain types of pigmentation and can leave the face brighter in general.
These are, of course, just a few suggestions. To learn which lasers are best for you, it's best to visit our clinic in person for consultation with our experienced dermatologists. Some lasers have downtime, some don't; don't be shy and discuss what you want, for a whiter and brighter face!

LASER TONING by Spectra XT is for treating pigmentation that lies deeper within the dermis. It is used for melasma on the face, as well as body discoloration in areas such as the underarms (as shown above), as well as elbows, bikini area, and so on. The only problem with this is that regular sessions are needed to see good results - with one session you might not really notice any difference. That's because the pigmentation is destroyed underneath the visible skin layers, unlike other lasers I will introduce below.

Laser Toning, if done correctly, works on 99% of all patients if the full treatment regimen is followed.
