Asians are known for looking a lot younger than their actual age - it's just generally known that way. There might be a number of factors that may explain why, such as diet or skin care or just environmental differences, but that's a whole different story. Despite our youthful appearances, there is one particular factor can still age Asians by years, perhaps even decades, and that is hair loss. Not even the best skin care programs or anti-aging treatments can undo the aesthetic damage done by lack of hair.
Now, hair loss can be hereditary, or it can be caused by other external factors, like changes in the environment or perhaps stress. It can happen gradually over time or progress super quickly; and usually happens after a certain age where it's deemed a bit more acceptable to be a little bald (and is mostly found in men). The real stress comes when one starts to lose hair at a young age. Looking like a middle-aged man at the pinnacle of your youth is the last thing anyone would want.
Thanks to modern day technology, however, there are a number of solutions that might help, such as hair thickening powders or super natural-looking wigs. The most natural and permanent solution is the hair transplantation - a surgery, as the name suggests, consists of extracting hair follicles from the back of the head and transplanting them in areas of hair loss. Results?

It's important to choose the right clinic for your hair transplantation. This is a big procedure and you do not want anything to go wrong. The skills and efficiency of the doctor play a big role in the survival rate of your hair follicles, so make sure your doctors are experienced and certified. Which actually goes for every other procedure as well, but you get the gist.
So there are two types of hair transplantation, known as strip harvesting/FUSS and FUE (follicular unit extraction). Strip harvesting consists of removing a strip of the scalp, from which hair follicles are extracted and transplanted. This may result in a linear scar, which, with the help of a skillful doctor, can be done so that the scar is as minimally visible as possible. FUE transplanting is much more time consuming because each follicle is individually extracted from the scalp, which means no linear scar and minimally invasive. However, this method only works for straight hairs, whereas strip harvesting is not limited to any type.
Of course, in the end the doctor will have to decide for you which method will work best, so it's best to schedule a consultation before deciding anything. But it wouldn't hurt to do your research beforehand so you can make a more well-informed judgement.
By the way, fun fact: the head dermatologist of the Dongdaemun branch has had a hair transplant himself! He is one of the few doctors that literally knows what it's like to be in the patient's position. I'd mentioned in an earlier post about hairline correction that our doctors perform on each other; check out this video. Enjoy!
