Tips For Visiting Renewme Skin Clinic (Or Any Dermatologist)

Visiting the dermatologist for the first time might seem intimidating if you're not used to it. But in fact, the truth is that medical consultations in Korea, much like most other things in this country, are easy, quick, cheap, and efficient; unlike clinics in other countries where I've heard you need to book months in advance and pay a ridiculous amount of money just to speak with the doctor. If you happen to live in Korea or even if you're just visiting, I'd suggest you seize this good opportunity to visit a skin clinic while you can (only if you need to, of course).

Nevertheless, skin clinics aren't like shopping malls where you can breeze in with no intention of buying anything, browse around, pay half-attention to retailers persuading you to buy their products, and maybe decide to splurge on something or perhaps just leave empty-handed, wallet untouched. This is a place where you go in with a specific concern, communicate with the doctors and staff about the best way to achieve a real solution for your personal health and beauty. Therefore, it would be best to come prepared so you can get the most out of your experience. Here are just a few tips that you may want to keep in mind.

1. Come with a bare face.
If you want the doctor to assess your skin condition properly, you shouldn't leave it hiding under layers of makeup. Most likely, the doctor will ask you to wash your face at the clinic if he/she feels the makeup interferes with the diagnosis. You might as well wash it beforehand at home, with products you're comfortable with rather than going through the hassle at the clinic. If you must, bring your cosmetic products with you and reapply your makeup at our powder room before you leave. Either way, don't apply anything but moisturizer or sunscreen when you're showing your skin to the dermatologist.

2. Prepare the names/types of medications you're taking.
It's important to inform the doctor of any pre-existing medical conditions you have. You wouldn't want the doctor's prescriptions to clash with the medication you're on already. To minimize any chance of side effects or problems, bring a list of the medications you're taking, as well as the names of your conditions.

3. Do some research beforehand.
Having an idea of what treatments to expect will greatly help both yourself and the doctor. Of course, we will explain to you in detail about the treatment, but if you did your research already you would be able to understand everything much more quickly and with clarity, saving a lot of time and effort. Furthermore, if you already had some sort of treatment in mind, the doctor can recommend a procedure closest to what you want, and what results you wish to achieve.

4. Keep in contact with the consultant/staff.
Our consultants are accessible through email, phone, and various chatting apps such as Kakao Talk, Line, and WhatsApp. Make use of this and contact us if you have any questions - better yet, you can send in a photo of whichever area is concerning you, and we'll show the doctor right away and get back to you with a response as soon as possible.
On a similar yet different note; make sure to communicate if you're late or need to cancel your appointment. This is basic etiquette and should apply for all other relationships as well. The staff and doctor will be expecting you at the time of appointment, as is the translator who is not always at the clinic. If you can't make it, please let us know in advance.

5. Clear plenty of time for your schedule if you plan on receiving treatment.
Of course, this depends on what type of treatment, but generally if it's any procedure that requires numbing cream or anesthesia, you might take a lot longer than expected. There might be steps in the procedure that aren't always part of the treatment itself, such as LED therapy or a soothing mask and such. You might want to ask for an approximate time frame before you visit, but to be on the safe side, always clear an hour or two extra since you never know what delays may occur.
Additionally, if you want to receive treatment during the day, be aware of the clinic's lunch hours (ours is from 1 to 2 PM). If your consultation falls right before lunch hour, you may need to wait a lot longer for your actually procedure because it will probably take place after lunch.

Hopefully now you might have a general idea of how to prepare for your visit to the dermatologist, or more specifically Renewme Skin Clinic. This applies for many other clinics as well, so it's always to keep this information in mind!
