I've always had a soft spot for bagels. It gets me all nostalgic, thinking about my younger days when I was living in the US, and my dad would buy freshly baked bagels from the local shop, with homemade cream cheese. Those things were seriously so good - chewy and hearty and simply delicious. I'm not sure how other people might think, but I would say that New York's bagel game is pretty strong, which is why during my life here in Seoul I was disappointed quite often every time I tried a bagel. It just wasn't the same. And they only had about 2-3 types of bagels, and only one kind of cream cheese, which was no fun at all.
When I heard that a bagel store opened up near Nambu Terminal, near Renewme Skin Clinic Seocho branch, I was naturally ecstatic. This place had about 10 different types of cream cheese, which weren't exactly like the ones I had in New York but it was still a break from boring old plain. I made it my personal mission to try each flavor and show it to you guys.
How to get there: go straight from Nambu Terminal station (line 3) exit 6, and turn right at the first alleyway for about 20 meters. Mono Cheese is a tiny little cafe with a cozy interior. They are open Monday-Saturday until 9 pm, and deliver as well, if you order more than 20,000 KRW. And they've got several menus, actually, and not just bagels - paninis, grilled cheese sandwiches, cheesecake milkshakes, and coffee beverages. I wasn't interested in the rest (though I tried the milkshake once, which was great), because they didn't look particularly authentic... if there is such a thing as an authentic grilled cheese. :D
So yeah, I tried the bagels. My first thought upon ordering was: I can't give this place a high rating, for two reasons. One, they have different cream cheeses, but only one type of bagel. Second, they don't make their own bagels! The bagels are the factory-made kind, and have a very synthetic, low-quality texture which I was not pleased about. The cream cheese were pretty good, though, and they make sure to really pile it on the bagels, so that was a plus.

I tried six so far, but I'm not really interested in the other ones, which included Nutella, Honey Walnut, Cookies and Cream (for a bagel???)... and I think that's it. They were all not bad, but not particularly fantastic either, mainly because I was not very satisfied with the bread. My favorite cream cheese by far was the pimento, which has pepper bits inside, which really balances out the heaviness and richness of the cheese. Strawberry was the runner up, but it tasted more like a dessert. Very sweet and tangy.
Momo Cheese is still an quick and easy spot for something simple and affordable; if you are in the area you might definitely want to give this place a try!
