Excimer Laser Treatment in Seoul for Vitiligo/Psoriasis/Atopic Dermatitis

Howdy, everyone. August, and consequently summer, is slowly coming to an end. As if the sky is able to feel my gloom, it's been rainy and dreary for the past couple of days. I've been in long pants and a cardigan all day, the first in a long while, and we haven't even turned on the air conditioner at the office - I think that says it all about the change in weather (for me, anyway). In any case, I hope everyone has had at least some sort of opportunity to enjoy the summer. For students, now is the perfect chance to start a new semester afresh, with motivation levels at 110%. Hwai-ting (Korean pronunciation of 'fighting': phrase of encouragement)!!!

Today's post is more for the expats who are living in Korea, rather than the tourists who only have a few days to stay. Dermatology clinics are not visited solely for cosmetic purposes; it is a medical clinic like any other, but specializing in the skin. You might be surprised as to how many different types of lesions, skin conditions, disorders etc. can be found in the skin, though you actually shouldn't be surprised because the skin is actually the largest organ in the body. And of course, some skin diseases are much difficult to treat than others.

For the more difficult treatments, a very important factor to consider when looking for a clinic is the equipment that is available. Good equipment means better and more effective treatment, and at Renewme Skin Clinic we make sure to use the best machines available, chosen carefully after years of trial and error. Our goal is to be able to treat patients in all aspects related to skin, from cosmetic and anti-aging procedures to treatment for serious disorders; which is why all six branches of Renewme Skin Clinic have also invested in an excimer laser. Just the other day, Dr. Choi, head doctor at our Bundang branch, gave an interview on TV about this special machine.

Would you look at that! We're famous! :D But in all seriousness, what is excimer laser anyway?

Excimer laser is a type of ultraviolet laser that has a broad range of uses including LASIK eye surgery and photolithography. For dermatologists, the xenon chloride excimer laser is used for treating skin conditions such as vitiligo, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, and leukoderma. Unlike conventional ultraviolet therapy, the excimer laser allows a singular wavelength to be concentrated solely on the treatment area, meaning less potential damage to the surrounding healthy skin cells.

Before and after excimer laser treatment
Now, excimer laser treatment can be quite costly. Moreover, it requires steady, regular sessions if you want to see improvement, which is why it's recommended to receive treatment in the country you plan to live in for long-term. If you're worried about the pricing, for visible areas (face, under elbows, under knees), excimer laser treatment can be covered partly by Korean national health insurance, making it much more affordable if this applies to you. If it does, make sure to prepare your ARC and health insurance when you visit.

I should also mention that excimer laser is not commonly available at your local skin clinic - it is used more in general hospitals that require a referral for you to receive treatment. But you can receive the same-quality treatment, by experienced dermatology specialists, right here in our own clinic. This takes you a step closer to finding a solution to whichever skin condition that concerns you. Contact Renewme Skin Clinic today, for consultation and/or appointment!
