Hands down, the most popular bakery chain in Korea is Paris Baguette; they've got branches in other countries, and literally one in every neighborhood in Korea. It's like the McDonald's of bread, and their reputation I personally think is well deserved, as the bread, cakes and pastries there are all seriously delicious. Sweet, buttery, savory, all the good stuff. However, after years of consuming bread at a franchise, there are times where you crave something that's not so factory made; something with more of a homemade touch. Or something a bit more luxurious and less commercial.
For that, there are a few private bakeries scattered around Seoul that are not so widely known but highly valued all the same. I don't know if it's some sort of secret recipe, or whether the bakers have studied abroad or something, but the bread from these shops are otherworldly and inexplicably delicious. Here is one such bakery in Seocho-dong (Gangnam), straight down the street from Renewme Skin Clinic Seocho: walk straight from Nambu Terminal Station exit 6, for about 10 minutes or so and you will see Bingo Bread on your right.
The bakery is quite spacious, with an open kitchen and plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your bread and drinks. Here is a menu with the drinks and coffees you can order (click to enlarge):
And now for all the bread!!!
I visited early in the morning, but I'd expect there would be a lot more variety if you visit in the afternoon. Even though I missed out on a lot, there was still so much to choose from and I will definitely be visiting again. The staff was also very pleasant and friendly, which made the visit even more enjoying. As for the bread, it was not too sweet (in a good way) and tasted somewhat healthier than usual. Everything here is a bit on the pricier side, but I would still recommend you try something from this bakery, just as a treat.
