Since the writer of this blog is mainly situated right near the Seocho branch of Renewme Skin Clinic, it is inevitable that most of the food/restaurant posts are all located around the same area. Nevertheless, Gangnam is visited frequently by tourists and expats alike. Plus, with the Nambu Bus Terminal and Seoul Arts Center so nearby, I would say it is definitely the worth the time to pay a visit to this neighborhood and discover a few delicious eats while you are around.
Last week we ventured out to a hamburger steak restaurant that we'd passed by a few times but never had the opportunity to actually enter. We were in the mood for something moderately classy, not exactly fast food but not grade A steak that costs a fortune.
The restaurant is called Demis - go straight from Nambu Terminal Station exit 5, and turn left at the big junction. Keep walking straight toward the Arts Center and you will see the sign on your left.
They have a lunch special on weekdays, along with set menus that allow you to eat at a fair discount. The interior and atmosphere of the place was also quite pleasant, with dim lighting and some funky, cute decorations.
Four hamburger steak menus were ordered that day; the Demis Steak, Chili Steak, Cream Steak and Curry Steak. Can you guess which is which?
All steaks are accompanied with a simple cabbage salad, a scoop of rice, some cooked vegetables and wedged potatoes. You might find it funny that rice is accompanying the steak, but Koreans need their rice - it's just the perfect finishing touch to any hamburger steak or cutlet. The bread is just an appetizer. :P
There is also a wall full of autographs from famous people who'd eaten at this place. I noticed quite a few Korean hip hop artists as well. Maybe because the place is close to an arts center? Or maybe because the food is just plain awesome. I would assume a combination of both.
Prices are moderate for Gangnam standards and the food was above average. The meat didn't feel cheap or of low quality, though to be completely honest I'm the last person to be able to tell them apart. If you happen to pass by and want a er... sort of... fusion hamburger steak, I would definitely recommend this place!

They pride themselves on using 100% beef for their hamburger steaks. |
Cute semi-plushy chairs and the framed works of animation immediately caught my eye. |
The simple menu. The only other main courses they have besides steak are curry rice and pork cutlet. (Salad doesn't count a main course for me.) |
Pickles were fresh and just the right amount of tangy. |
Free bread! Soft and delicious, not the cheap sliced bread you get at supermarkets. |
